Here's the latest sale from Library and Educational Services - this week features science, nature and animal titles.
Book tip:
If you are looking for a fun little title to read before a visit to the museum, consider Norman the Doorman by Don Freeman. It's a quite cute little story and my children all enjoyed it.
Looking for reference books? I have acquired so many great titles from Paperback Swap in this category! Right now I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of a huge timeline book. I also have acquired several history books and quite a few textbooks that I'll use for homeschooling. If you want a reference book, it is sometimes helpful to search beyond just the "educational" subcategory. To find the timeline book for instance, I searched using the term "world history." Enjoy!
June 27th, 2007:
Several members at Paperback Swap are offering 2 for 1 or better on their books including many children's books that would be great for homeschooling. Don't forget, if you select Search:All Books and then browse by genre, you can opt to search just "non-fiction" or even books specifically designated as "homeschool" related. If you've not registered yet, sign up and post 9 books of your own to trade and receive 3 free credits to get started instantly! If you are signing up for the first time, please let them know that mom @ hwtk.net sent you (no spaces).
Right now at HavenToday.org you can hear a reading of several stories from the book The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name. Also available are two Kids Praise Album packs.

Several people over at are offering 3 for 1 deals on Children's books. I just spent all my credits on a couple of "3 for" deals plus some individual books that had been on my wishlist. Don't forget to wishlist your homeschool dream books, I am expecting to receive From Sea to Shining Sea in the mail any day now as well as another one of the OOP Alice in Bibleland books that I need to complete my set thanks to PBSwap!
Take advantage of a combination of offers at amazon.com if you need to buy any new books. Several FIAR and other great children's titles are "Buy 4 Pay for 3" and you can combine this with the same offer on DVDs and music CDs. Then if your purchase is large enough, you'll also qualify for free shipping. Now- I saw Cranberry Thanksgiving listed as available at amazon.com in new paperback. But, they've listed OOPs before and not had them. If you want to give it a try, I recommend ordering this book separately or preparing to complain if you lose your free shipping because this book wasn't available after all. I was tempted to try buying it myself, but really couldn't justify the expense this month as I already own a copy of this particular book. ;-)
Did I tell you about this? I may have only mentioned it on my blog. But here it is, better late than never:

This challenge last from March 21st through June 21st. Join the fun by signing up with Mr. Linky at Callapidder Days' blog. You will have a little catching up to do, but there's plenty of time.

March 11, 2007
Oh dear, I've not updated the book news in a long time. Sorry! I wanted to tell you about this listing at though:
Soonis' husband just left for deployment in Iraq. She is offering a 3 for 1 special to keep herself busy. The offer is good through March 25th and she has over 7 pages of children's books, including 3 FIAR titles (the last time I checked). She has 700 books total (well, minus the 6 I snapped up) so do give her listings a look. Soonis (Susan C.) and her DH also appreciate your prayers during this time.
______
I also received some interesting news this week from Picture Me Reading! Coming very soon to Picture Me Reading! is a book of OT Bible Stories that have been written in the PMR style. Marlys Isaacson, the PMR author, wrote the text and her 12 year old granddaughter drew the illustrations. How neat is that? You can purchase a teacher's manual designed specifically for homeschoolers to go along with the Picture Me Reading Favorite Bible Stories. You may view a sample page from the book at: Creation Story Sample Page. Marlys had hoped to have the book available this weekend, but the website isn't offering it for sale just yet. If you want to be notified as soon as it's available, use the contact us link on this page .
_______
Library and Education Services has some new sales listed, be sure to give them a look! Note: You will need to create an account to access the site. Included in the sale that ends tomorrow are several Veggie Tale DVDs for $7.49, Friends and Heros DVDs starting at $6.49, and a set of 15 Red Rock Mysteries for $44.92. Wow, have I had some fun book shopping these past few weeks! I was able to get My Great-Aunt Arizona from Paperback Swap. I also found The Freedom Train, Madeleine and the Bad Hat and lots of other great books for school at various used book sales and second hand stores in the area! I probably added 100 books or more in the last month. I know, I really don't "need" any more books. But I love to have them here for the kids. I feel like even if I'm not with them, they can still learn what I want them to learn. My Paperback Swap finds are listed below, and I'm working on adding my other finds to LibraryThing. If you want to know about a title on my "shelf" just ask, if I can find my copy in the piles of books around here I'll be happy to answer your question.
By the way, if you've not checked out the Discussion Forums at Paperback Swap, do! There a section where people can post their deals and you can often find the books you want 2 for 1 credit or better! I'm actually doing a 2 for 1 myself right now. Last week I picked up several titles using 3 for 1 or 5 for 2 offers.
Bookcloseouts has ended it's Winter Sale. I didn't make any purchases myself as I am trying to save a little money while still feeding my habit. The new sales are: Get Ready for Spring and a Journal and Photo Album Blowout
If you are thinking of creating a special journal or photo album for someone, you might want to take a look at the BCO deals. For a low price you could purchase a blank journal and then customize it for your special recipient.
I found these coupon codes, but the expiration date was listed as "unknown"-
$10 off $50 purchase: password- bookcloseouts code- clearance
$5 off $35 purchase: password- bookcloseouts code- friends
Christian Book Distributors has marked down several of it's Bibles and also has many Easter titles on sale. If you are in the market for a new inspirational book, be sure and take a look.
Here are some codes I found:
10% off on orders of $35+
Coupon Code: 229766AQ
(I am guessing this one expires soon)
Free ship on orders of $35+ (before taxes) Coupon Code: 229767AR Expires: 3/10/07
Last week's edition of World Magazine (which I don't have handy) had a new code for 10% off on orders of $35 or more, this one was good until April 13th. So do look around before you complete your purchase. I'll try to find the code myself and get it posted if I can.
I finished reading Buried Treasure : Hidden Wisdom from the Hebrew Language by Rabbi Daniel Lapin and actually already traded it out on Paperback Swap. I'll try to get a review of it posted here soon. But the review is available at PBS if you don't want to wait. You know, even if it's a book I don't "love" I have such a hard time letting it go once I've read it. There are so many great books left to read, I can't imagine taking the time to read this one again. But I do have feelings of nostalgia looking at it's cover photo over at PBS. By the way, I purchased my copy new and very inexpensively from Christian Book Distributors. It's a hardcover with dust jacket, so it would make a nice gift if you know someone who is interested in the Hebrew language.
I'm also reading a book available free from:

This is a fabulous resource that I just learned about earlier this year. I've written about it on my blog, but I don't think I've posted the link here at Books @HWTK yet. Sorry!
The book I'm reading is titled "Real Christians Don't Dance" by John Fischer. I can't say that it's the best written book I've ever read and some of his chapters just don't make sense to me at all. But, he does make some very clear statements about how our modern church has been overcome by the glitter at the expense of the Good News. He also points out how we ourselves sometimes seek the quick fix or easy answer when only the Truth will do. For the price, it's worth a look. ;-) I have a more extensive review of this title on my blog.
February 8
I've added some of my picks to the Bookcloseouts Section of the Bargain Basement and new titles to the Great Books store too.
Check out the freebies on the Links for Schooling page, there is a great phonics download available from Progressive Phonics!
